A Houston police officer drowned in his patrol car in Harvey flood waters, according to Chief Art Acevedo at a press conference earlier today.
The officer was identified as Sergeant Steve Perez, a 34-year veteran of the department. Perez went missing Sunday morning while trying to get to work.
Acevedo said that Perez was driving in the dark under an over pass that is approximately 16 feet deep. Divers found him this morning around 8 a.m. according to Acevedo.
After getting trapped in high water, he tried to get out of the patrol car but was unable to.
