UPDATE 5/8 8:30 AM EST:
The Douglas County Sheriff announced a shocking new development in the Stem school shooting.
Sheriff Tony Spurlock identified one of the shooters as 18-year-old Devon Erickson and the other shooter as a juvenile female.
She has not been identified, but both teens are students at the school.
Sheriff Spurlock did state that both shooters entered the school through separate entrances and began firing upon their classmates.
NBC News has confirmed the student who was killed in Tuesday’s shooting as Kendrick Castillo.
UPDATE 9:21 EST: According to multiple reports, one of the 8 students shot or injured today has died.
Both suspects are in custody and have been identified as students, although one an adult and one a juvenile.
According to Denver ABC 7, all of the shooting victims were over 15-years-old.
UPDATE 5:24 EST:
Undersheriff Nicholson gave an update and said a school admin called 911 after she heared shots fired.
She also said that the school does not have a SRO, but nearby SROs and sheriff’s deputies responded to the school immediately and entered the school together to locate and stop the suspects.
Undersheriff Nicholson also stated that two suspects have been arrested and that they do not believe there is a third.
She said that she can confirm seven people have been injured, possibly eight. She could not confirm any fatalities.
UPDATE 4:57 EST:
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has announced that two suspects are in custody.
Douglas County Undersheriff Holly Nicholson says there are multiple injuries, though the exact number is still undetermined.
There are multiple rescue units on scene treating and transporting the injured.
Nicholson did say that the school has an SRO, though the location of that officer is unknown at this time.
The Denver Channel reports there are still students inside the school waiting to be cleared by the police.
UPDATE: 4:30 p.m.
KUSA is reporting police are going room to room and clearing each one.
The sheriff is in the process of identifying and locating the shooters.
Police receieved a call about the shooting just before 1:30 p.m.
There is a sheriff substation a quarter mile from the school.
The school has about 1,800 students between K-12th grade.
Douglas County is one of Colorado’s largest school districts.
The FBI is also on its way to the sceme to assist.
The school is actually not far from Colombine which just marked 20 years since the school shooting there.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s office is reporting that two people have been injured in a school shooting.
The incident happened around 4 p.m. EST at the STEM school at Ridgeline and Plaza.
The sheriff has described it as an unstable situation.
We do not know much about the shooter, or if the person is in custody.
