UPDATE: Chicago police are livid over the fact that the District Attorney’s office has decided to drop all charges against Empire TV star Jussie Smollet, according to multiple sources.
“At the end of the day it’s Mr. Smollett who committed this hoax. Period. If he wanted to clear his name the way to do that was in a court of law so that everyone could see the evidence,” Johnson said. “I stand by the facts of what we produced. If they want to dispute those facts the place to do that is in court,” according to NBC Chicago.
Johnson added, “Do I think justice was served? No…I think this city is still owed an apology.”
The police spent hundreds of man hours trying to find two attackers Smollett claimed threw bleach on him, put a noose around his neck, and yelled ‘this is MAGA country’ as part of a January hate crime.

Police soon found out that Smollett had planned the fake attack against himself.
Kim Foxx, the Cook County State Attorney, even tried to interfere with the investigation trying to get local PD to turn it over to the Feds as she communicated with a family member of Smollett’s and Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff, Tina Tchen, who is also a friend of Smollett.
“It’s a punch in the gut. Is absolutely a punch in the gut,” said Commander Ed Wodnicki, according to NBC Chicago. “We worked closely throughout our three-week investigation to get to point where we arrested the offender. For the state’s attorney at this point to dismiss charges without discussing this with us at all is just shocking.”
The Cook County State Attorney’s office statement read:
“After reviewing all of the facts and circumstance of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case.”
Smollett faced multiple charges including filing a false police report.

Smollett has also spoken saying he’s been truthful the entire time.

According to USA Today prosecutors have dropped all charges against the ‘Empire’ star for setting up a fake attack against himself.
Smollett pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on March 14th.
He has denied the charges.
Smollett was accused of paying two Nigerian brothers to act as fake attackers.
Smollett had said two people beat him up, threw bleach on him, put a noose around his neck, and yelled ‘this is MAGA country’ as part of a racist attack against the gay and black actor.
He even sat down with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts in a highly criticized interview a few weeks after the supposed attack.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
