Two children are dead and 10 others – including the suspect – were injured after a stolen police cruiser crashed into two other vehicles Monday night in Dayton, media reports say.
The police cruiser, an SUV belonging to the department in suburban Riverside, was stolen after the suspect crashed a vehicle into a tree, the Dayton Daily News reported.
As police responded to the crash, an officer got out of the cruiser, and the suspect reportedly jumped into the driver’s seat. The officer returned to the cruiser and tried to subdue the suspect with a Taser, but the suspect was able to drive away, a witness told the newspaper.
The cruiser then crashed into at least two other vehicles near Dayton’s main library downtown.
Police said 12 people – including seven children – were taken to hospitals after crash. Two of the children died, and three of the injured children were in critical condition.
The suspect, who police say was being sought in a the stabbing of a woman earlier in the evening, was taken into custody and is among those hospitalized with injuries.
