An Enid man was arrested after police said he led officers on a chase involving a stolen FedEx truck.
At 1:08 p.m. Monday, Enid Police Department officers were called to 215 S. 6th, Cherokee Terrace Apartments, for a disturbance.
Capt. Tim Jacobi said witnesses reported a man attempted to force his way into an apartment and then began choking a dog chained up outside.
“The man threatened a nearby witness who was calling 911 and then confronted a FedEx driver that had just exited their truck to make a delivery,” Jacobi said. “The man climbed into the window of the FedEx truck and drove away as officers were arriving.”
Responding officers saw the truck leaving and stopped it near 500 E. Cherokee. The suspect did not remain stopped and again drove off, leading police on a short chase.
“The truck became stuck in traffic at the intersection of 4th and Owen K. Garriott Road. When officers confronted the suspect, he pulled the truck forward and collided with another vehicle that was stopped in front of him,” Jacobi said. “One officer deployed a taser, but the suspect retreated further into the truck, which was completely locked. A moment later, he jumped out of the driver’s side window and attempted to flee.”
Officers grappled with the suspect while trying to place him under arrest. During the arrest, the suspect punched and bit several officers.
The man was identified as Khalid Marquise Lee, 19, of Enid. He was booked on complaints of auto theft, attempting to elude, several counts of assault and battery on a police officer, cruelty to animals, driving without a valid license and resisting arrest.
“While being booked at the Garfield County Detention Facility, Lee assaulted and injured several detention officers,” Jacobi said. “More charges are expected.”
The officers were treated and released with minor injuries.
“No citizens, including the other vehicle occupants involved in the collision, were injured,” Jacobi said.
