Clay County Sheriff Paul Vescovo is so upset that the county commission has “drastically underfunded” his office that he’s suing to try to get the money back.
According to KMBC, Sheriff Vescovo says his department will run out of money unless the commission reverses course.
He also believes that two of the three commission members are retaliating against him after he turned over a case of criminal tampering by the budget officer to another law enforcement division to investigate.
Sheriff Vescovo needs the court to restore more than $1.7 million for his 2019 budget after the commission cut it by 60%.
All three count commission members are named in the lawsuit
