The Lakeland Police Department is looking for two men who attempted an armed carjacking Tuesday night in front of Ben’s Paint Supply store on Gary Road.

Police released a description of the two suspects as black males, each standing around 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds and wearing all black clothing with handkerchiefs covering their noses and mouths. The men were armed with AK-47 assault rifles and traveling in a black or dark charcoal gray GMC Acadia.

No injuries were reported, according to LPD spokesperson Robin Tillett, who said the Polk County Sheriff’s Office had spotted a vehicle that matched a “be on the lookout” alert put out earlier by LPD. The Acadia had fled the area and was found abandoned at Crystal Hills Loop, she said. Lakeland PD and the PCSO set up a perimeter in the area, but no suspects were located.
