A suspect in a triple homicide Tuesday ran naked while eluding police, charging at an officer at one point and choking another person before finally being subdued, reports say.
Matthew Bernard, 18, is being held on three charges of murder, according to WSET Channel 13.
Bernard is accused of killing his mother, sister, his sister’s child and a dog. Police tell WSET a woman’s body was found in the driveway of a home and the other victims were found inside the house.
Officers were involved in a manhunt for the suspect when he emerged naked from behind a house and began running toward a nearby church, WSLS Channel 10 reports.
Video shows the suspect getting pepper-sprayed as he runs toward an officer but it appears to have little effect. The suspect then grabs a man standing near a pickup truck, identified as a church caretaker, and begins choking him.
An officer intervenes and the suspect again begins running from police.
Additional officers and a K9 were able to take the suspect into custody moments later as he ran down a road.
USA Today reports that two of the victims are the wife and child of Blake Bivens, a Class AA pitcher in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Officials have not released the identities of the victims.
