The Bergen County Prosecutor’s office accused a Maywood man of killing a teenager and then leaving her body in a parked car.
Michael Gaffney, 21, of Maywood, was arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter on Saturday.
Francis Victoria Garcia, 19, had been found near 140 Prospect Avenue in Hackensack around 2:14 a.m. She was transported to the nearby Hackensack University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
She was in the rear seat of the vehicle with Gaffney when she died, the prosecutor’s office said, and an autopsy determined that her death was caused by “compression injuries to her neck.”
Gaffney is currently in the Bergen County Jail.
Hackensack police assisted with the investigation.
