A New Jersey high school basketball coach was assaulted earlier this week by his own players, authorities said.

The incident was captured on video and spread across social media.

Officers told WABC-TV four members of the JV team at Malcolm X. Shabazz High School assaulted the coach after returning from an away game. According to the report, the coach tried to stop his players from picking on another student when the players turned on the coach instead.

Names of the suspects weren’t released due to juvenile status, “but those found to have participated in this senseless act of violence will face criminal charges,” Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said.

The students have been suspended from the school. The victim declined medical attention.

“I spoke to the superintendent, principal, coaches and team,” Newark Mayor Ras Baraka told WABC. “The actions of these students will not be tolerated, and they don’t represent the majority of the school.”
