The key witness in the case against Amber Guyge was reportedly killed in a drug deal on Friday night, according to local officials.
Joshua Brown, who testified at the trial of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, was reportedly involved in a drug deal that went bad and was fatally shot in his apartment complex.
According to WFAA, three suspects -Michael Mitchell Thaddeous Charles Green and Jacquerious Mitchell- traveled all the way from Louisiana to buy marijuana from Brown.
During negotiations, an argument broke out and Brown shot Jacquerious Mitchell in the chest, prompting Green to shoot Brown.
Jacquerious Mitchell remains in the hospital, and the other two men have yet to be arrested. All three face capital murder charges.
DPD investigators found 12 pounds of marijuana and about $4,000 in cash in Brown’s apartment during a search.
Some conspiracy theorists have claimed that the Dallas Police Department is responsible for Brown’s killing and that his death was an act of vengeance.
“I assure you that is simply not true,” Assistant Police Chief Avery Moore said of the rumors.
The incident remains under investigation.
