Police officer shoots man that pointed a gun at him

CANTON, Ohio – Canton Police released bodycam footage from an officer involved shooting early Wednesday morning.

Police say Jashaun M. Nickol was shot once in the leg by a Canton Police officer that was not identified.

Canton Police Captain David Kurzinsky said officers stopped a group of male subjects that Nickol was a part of for suspicious activity. At some point Nickol ran and pointed a gun at the officers who were chasing him and they opened fire on him. Nickol continued to run a short distance before the officer locates him.

In the video you can see Nickol holding his leg and screaming while the officer waits for back up.

Kurzinsky said multiple officer are on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

This is the second officer involved shooting in Stark County, Ohio after a Uniontown officer was shot during a gun battle a few days ago.
