Man facing charges after stealing headstones, grave markers for police officers, servicemembers, and firefighters



A Massachusetts man is facing a mountain of charges after he reportedly stole grave markers from the headstones of servicemembers, police officers and firefighters’ graves.

Police executing a search warrant found over 24 Curio & Relic (C&R) firearms in the possession of 65-year-old Robert Stoddard last Friday, as well as grave markers that police report were stolen from a cemetery across the street.

Officers also found mortar shells that were turned over to the US Navy for disposal.

Stoddard was charged with three counts of desecrating a grave, five counts of receiving stolen property, three counts of improper storage of a handgun, and one count of possession of a firearm with obliterated serial numbers.

According to CBS Boston, the families of the deceased are being tracked down by police in order to return the headstones.
