Volusia County Judge Belle Schumann sent Florida Highway Patrol Trooper John Costa to jail for 5 days on Friday for contempt of court for missing a DUI Trial in October.  The day of the trial they tried calling Costa and sent someone to his house and could not locate him to come to court.  The result was the Judge entered an acquittal into the record for the defendant who had previous DUI convictions.  For up-to-date news accounts of this story, photos and to post a comment, please access the links below:

  1. Guess FHP may not look the other way the next time a judge gets pulled over and is drunk off their ass. What goes around, comes around and bites you in the ass.

  2. Thank you Judge Schumann for your bravery and example. The true injustice is that a serial DUI offender walked because of the carelessness or indifference of this trooper.
