ESTHERWOOD, Louisiana – Assistant Chief of Police Wayne Welsh resigned late Tuesday, about 48 hours after he shared a racial meme on his personal Facebook page.

Welsh tried to defend his post saying “it’s not against the law to share something on Facebook,” mentioning the “race card” in response to critics, and writing that “Facebook police mad at me.”

The post was publicly viewable and went viral quickly. City council members began to learn about Welsh’s post Tuesday afternoon. That evening it was announced that Welsh had resigned.
