Same thing goes for a cop car. Ford takes the same old LX Crown Victoria your mom drives and keeps adding these speed tricks, suspension tweaks, and other super-duty details until it can out- idle, outhandle, and outrun almost any car on the road.

2000 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor

Engine: unique gasoline, 4.6L V-8 with police-pursuit calibration, including increased idle speed for improved charging-system output and cooling

Light in engine compartment. It ain't stock

Battery: extra-heavy-duty, 78 amp hr (750 CCA) with heat shield

Alternator: 130 amp, heavy-duty, with unique drive pulley for improved charging-system output at idle

Engine-oil cooler to prevent engine failure due to oil breakdown

Transmission oil cooler, external, front mounted for extended transmission life under severe operating conditions

Suspension: police-level, heavy-duty, front and rear springs, shock absorbers, stabilizer bars

Cooling package: police level with eight-blade plastic fan

Power-steering gear: unique for improved road feel, with front- mounted oil cooler

Speedometer: electronic-certified calibration in 2 mph increments, 0 to 140 mph

Wiring for courtesy lamp

Seats: cloth bucket, manual reclining, with driver/passenger antistab plate

Axle ratio, rear: 3.27:1 for low-end torque without sacrificing top-end speed

Frame and body mounts: heavy-duty
