July 17–There were some tense moments in Philadelphia last night. What police there said was a mob of teens, orchestrated through social media, showed up at a recreation center in the Germantown section of the city around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

And when police responded to the crowd, which reportedly numbered into the hundreds, things turned violent, according to 6ABC-TV in Philly.

Police attempted to control the crowd, shutting down several businesses where some of the teens were hiding, the station reports.

But not long thereafter, the gathered teens became violent, throwing bottles at officers, according to eye-witnesses quoted by 6ABC:

“They’re always talking about ‘The police this,’ and ‘The police that,'” she said. “But what they did to the police they were so disrespectful — throwing bottles and everything. It was so disrespectful. I got emotional, me and my sister. I started crying. I’m trying to get the kids to go home.”

The outnumbered police eventually dispersed the crowd.

And the so-called “flash mob,” which police say had been orchestrated on social media, did not result in any arrests, 6ABC adds.
