Former Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Tim Nichols was terminated because he “posed a threat to public safety” according to his dismissal letter. He appealed his dismissal and was allowed to resign instead. Of the policy violations he was accused of was chasing a car the wrong way on the interstate and unholstering his firearm in front of some nursing students. Nichols previously was suspended for 5 days for shooting at the fleeing vehicle of a sandwich theft suspect.
