Mayor Karl Dean is saying that if his budget and proposed tax increase are not passed, then the city of Nashville may have to lay off 200 Police Officers. The 200 officer include 50 hired 3 years ago under a COPS grant from the federal government. The other 150 would be to cover paying back the cost of the grant, due to not funding the 50 officers for this year.
