Rick began his law enforcement career in 1979 with the Detroit Police Department’s 5th Precinct – Uniform Patrol.  In 1982 he left Michigan and joined the Tampa Police Department in Florida where he retired as a detective in 2010 after 28 years of distinguished service.  During Rick’s time with TPD he served in many other capacities including Field Training Officer, Corporal and acting Sergeant.  He worked Property Crimes, Child Abuse, Robbery, Burglary, Fraud, Identity Theft, Missing Persons, Fugitives, Narcotics, Prostitution and Gangs to name a few.  Throughout his career Rick was diversified in working uniform, plain clothes and undercover assignments.  He is also cross-certified as a U.S. Customs Officer (Blue Lightning), deputized as a U.S. Marshall and worked undercover with TPD’s Criminal Intelligence Bureau in the area of Organized Crime and Adult Entertainment.

For years Rick served as the acting Sergeant and supervisor in charge of TPD’s Firearms Unit and Gang Suppression Unit.  He worked alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (A.T.F.), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) and the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco on numerous undercover operations and investigations.  Rick has over 20 years experience with firearm related laws and ordinances.  He holds a Master Diploma in Gun Repair and Gun Smithing, a Class 3 Firearm’s License and firearm/ammunition certifications too numerous to mention.  As a result, he is an expert experienced in the identification of firearms as well as class three firearms, machine guns, suppressors, short barrel rifles and shotguns.  Rick also received his formal education at Metropolitan University and St. Leo University.
